Values
Boody is providing us conscious consumers with affordable, comfy clothing essentials for the entire family—mums, dads and bubs are all covered—that are good for the planet and good for us, too. “Born in Australia and now loved worldwide”, Boody is redefining what it means to do comfort well, as the products under the Boody name have all been created with ethics, sustainability, and quality in mind. Boody’s brilliant bamboo (try saying that three times really fast) is FSC certified, Ecocert(ified), and PETA Vegan approved, and their products are SGS tested, made in a WRAP certified factory, and meet STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX. That’s a lot of acronyms but we promise they’re all totally legit.
The Boody team loves bamboo just as much as we love over-priced but completely incomparable Melbourne coffee, and because of its sustainability, comfort and health aspects, Boody’s chosen bamboo as their go-to fabric. Not only is bamboo hypoallergenic, highly breathable and delicate on our largest organ, Boody’s bamboo is also grown organically without artificial irrigation, and is fast growing and quick to regenerate, making it one of the best plants to utilise on the sustainability front.
Boody uses business to generate positive change, and this is evident in how they give back to Australian charities and causes. Boody proudly supports Greening Australia, Thread Together, PropellorProjects, and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Boody’s also a member of 1% for the Planet, a movement in which businesses donate 1% of their sales to non-profits that protect our environment. This really does make our little hearts extremely happy.

Eco Friendly
The majority of our garments are knitted in tubes resulting in very little fabric wastage compared to traditional cut-and-sew garment manufacturing. We are proudly part of the slow-fashion movement, producing basic, everyday essentials that avoid trend-chasing.
Fair
At Boody, we take both our social and environmental responsibilities extremely seriously, which is why we have developed a Supplier Manual to ensure our high standards of manufacturing practises are being met. From time to time, independent compliance audits are undertaken to ensure all suppliers meet manufacturing standards.
Minimal Waste
By following circular design principles, the production of our garments results in minimal waste. Durability is part of the DNA of our design, as is an “anti-fashion” ethos that keeps us away from prints, colours and passing trends.
Give Back
Giving back is at the core of who we are at Boody. We’re part of the 1% for the Planet movement and donate 1% of all our sales to not-for-profits that work to protect the environment. We also partner with Thread Together and Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.
Transparent
From where the bamboo is grown and harvested we have all the relevant certifications. Our yarn is produced under a patented process, therefore there is limited detail to this part of the supply chain. However, we have full transparency with our factories which we visit quarterly and they are all fully certified.
Behind the Brand
“Boody was born out of the perfect combination of a fashion and health background coming together. The learnings and passion from this lifetime in fashion and wellness led our brand to be created from the notion of making only essentials – slow fashion that is affordable, caring and considered”.
What made you start Boody?
Boody was born out of the perfect combination of a fashion and health background coming together. The learnings and passion from this lifetime in fashion and wellness led our brand to be created from the notion of making only essentials – slow fashion that is affordable, caring and considered.
Do you have a morning routine? If so, what is it you do to set yourself up for the day ahead?
My alarm goes off at 5am every morning. I wake, wash my face and brush my teeth and head out for my exercise so I can be home to be with my boys for an hour before dropping my eldest at day care and going to work.
I generally only have breakfast at around 9:30 when I get to work as my mornings are very full. I derive a lot of joy from food, and my wife and I are very conscious about the goodness we put into our bodies.
What’s the biggest barrier you’ve found to succeeding as a socially conscious business?
We have been lucky to have not really experienced any real barriers so far, which I actually put down to the fact we’re a socially conscious business. Obviously, the market is getting more competitive, but what we do is pretty unique and I believe there is enough room for everyone.
Within the ethical fashion community, there’s a big question that we ask which is ‘who made my clothes?’. In the scope of Boody, who made the things you sell? Can you tell us a bit about them?
We spent many months searching for partners globally with the right skills and equipment required to create Boody products, but also who could meet our strong requirements for sustainable production and ethical manufacturing. We now work closely with a handful of manufacturers in both Southern China and Vietnam, close to the plantations of the organic bamboo crops we use to make our viscose yarn. All of our garments are designed by our in-house design team here in our HQ in Sydney, Australia.
Why did you pick the fabrics you have chosen to work with?
The benefits of bamboo fabric are endless. Naturally eco-friendly, a dream to wear, resilient, superbly soft and healthy for even the most sensitive skin, bamboo clothing was an easy choice when selecting our hero fabric. However, we’re constantly innovating as new technologies allow for even more sustainable composition without compromising on quality. Watch this space!
Best piece of advice you have ever received?
Just to keep it simple when it comes to business and not to get caught up in all the prowess or glamour. If you have a great product, that’s what people will ultimately fall for – not all the hype that surrounds it.
What’s next for you and Boody?
So much. We are currently going through a rebrand at Boody which is really exciting – it’s all about remaining true to our original ethos while evolving our brand to look, feel and sound who we are today. We’ve also got some exciting new product launches in the pipeline, so keep an eye out for that…
One book and/or documentary everyone should read/watch? Why?
I actually just watched a really interesting documentary called The Game Changers, which is a revolutionary new film about meat, protein and strength. My wife (a doctor) and I are passionate about nutrition and its impact on our health and the environment, so we’ve experimented across a range of diets in the past – being vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian and flexitarian.
As our lives and circumstances have changed, the biggest having our two beautiful boys over the past two years, we’ve had to take a more flexible approach. We learnt from this film that science-based evidence actually proves that a plant-based diet can actually be beneficial to performance. We’re both very active, so this was a relief for us! We’ve embarked on eating a plant-based diet at home after watching this film.
Are there any other Movers & Shakers out there in your world that you think people should know about?
We partner with an organisation called Thread Together, which focuses on driving social and environmental change. Thread Together helps those in need through supplying them with brand new clothes sourced from brands with excess stock. It’s a simple idea but one that was long overdue in the fashion industry.
