Let My People Go Surfing

“We’re in business to save our home planet”

That’s Patagonia’s mission and it’s what has led the company to become one of the leading ethical clothing brands in the world for the last 50 years. Just ask anyone in the ethical space (us included) which brands they look up to the most and we can almost guarantee they will mention Patagonia.

Founded in 1973, it’s grown from being a small rock climbing accessories brand to generating net sales of approximately US$356 million in 2018. It’s all thanks to the ‘reluctant businessman’ Yvon Chouinard who has, from the beginning, offered his staff and customers a different approach to doing business and appreciating their clothes. That’s why his book, Let My People Go Surfing: The Education of a Reluctant Businessman is one of our favourites and is crucial for anyone wanting to learn how to do business better, or to just be inspired to make the world a better place.
